While I agree with most what you say, I should point out that Lucas neither wrote nor directed this abomination. I think he just said “I want someone to make me a Christmas Special, here’s a bunch of money”.
And you’re right about the description of Kashyyyk in the EU compared to this — but remember that this came out before the other descriptions. Fortunately I don’t think anyone considers this canon… everyone accepts Timothy Zahn’s description, instead. And rightly so!
